How sweet the sound.
That saved a wretch
I once was lost,
but now I am foundWas blind but now I see.
‘Twas grace that taught
my heart to fear.
And grace my fears relieved:;
How precious did that grace appear
The hour I first believed!
Through many dangers, toils and snares
I have already;
‘This grace has brought
safe thus fare, And grace will lead me home.
The Lord has promised good to me,
His word my hope secures;
He will my shield and portion be As long as life endures.
Yea, when this flesh
and heart shall fail,
And mortal life shall cease,
I shall possess, within the veil,
A life of joy and peace
